the Alps in Switzerland The Alps inspired many composers, including Richard Strauss. (rhoadeecha)

This week on Exploring Music, Bill McGlaughlin celebrates nature with works inspired by the great outdoors — from Strauss's alpine landscapes to Vaughan Williams's English moors — and of course, Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, "Pastoral."

The series also marks the 100th anniversary of the U.S. National Park Service, which was founded by Teddy Roosevelt in 1916, and it will feature readings of texts by the American naturalist John Muir.

Exploring Music airs weeknights at 11 pm.

This station is the best--it rarely gets turned off in my apartment (playing on an FM-tuner radio). I'm so grateful for your selections and the fact that you never have commercials. Thank you a thousand times.

P.S. I'll contribute to you all financially one day, as soon as I can. In the meantime, I'll do my best to spread the word.
