This week's show features a New Year’s salute to some recently released albums by musicians who have appeared on Young Artists Showcase. Israeli mandolinist Avi Avital opens with arrangements of traditional tunes from Romania and Wales. We continue with a work by American composer Seymour Barab, performed by the Parnas sisters Madalyn and Cicely. Many years ago, Barab, who passed away in July at the age of 93, composed a piece called "Showcase 1000" to commemorate the 1,000th episode of the Young Artists Showcase.

The Lysander Piano Trio performs programmatic work by Haydn and Turina on their new album. Earlier this year, the Lysanders made their first visit to the Showcase studio. Finally, we shuffled in a few tracks from a recent disc by the Shuffle Ensemble, putting Gershwin, Telemann, Ravel and Piazzolla side-by-side.
