Mozart's 'Don Giovanni' from London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Mozart's "Don Giovanni" from London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. (ROH/ Bill Cooper)

Few operas have stories as perfectly suited to a composer as Mozart's "Don Giovanni." It's hard to imagine a more complex weave of antic comedy, shocking violence and emotional betrayals than librettist Lorenzo da Ponte's incisive adaptation of the Don Juan legend — or a composer better equipped to handle it than Mozart.

On World of Opera, host Lisa Simeone presents "Don Giovanni" from London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Baritone Christopher Maltman sings the title role, with sopranos Albina Shagimuratova and Dorothea Röschmenn as Donna Anna and Donna Elvira, and baritone Alex Esposito as Leporello, in a production led by conductor Alain Altinoglu.

Listen to World of Opera on the Operavore on stream each week here at The program streams Thursdays at 4pm, Saturdays at 5pm and Sundays at 1pm.

@Ellen L, thank you. I just checked and found Dorothea Röschmann. It's not rocket science. I just don't understand how it can be two ways on the same page. Shameful.

(and yes, I am a proofreader)

DuckDeadeye, I'm assuming the correct spelling is the one I have seen on several previous occasions, Dorothea Roeschmann (sorry for no umlauts). I do not think I have ever seen a German name ending in "menn." Obviously, just a typo and more proof, if we needed it, of careless proofreading.

I love operas that start with a rape and a murder.

I'm confused. Which is correct?
