Mozart's 'Don Giovanni' From the Royal Opera House
Thursday, November 12, 2015
Few operas have stories as perfectly suited to a composer as Mozart's "Don Giovanni." It's hard to imagine a more complex weave of antic comedy, shocking violence and emotional betrayals than librettist Lorenzo da Ponte's incisive adaptation of the Don Juan legend — or a composer better equipped to handle it than Mozart.
On World of Opera, host Lisa Simeone presents "Don Giovanni" from London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Baritone Christopher Maltman sings the title role, with sopranos Albina Shagimuratova and Dorothea Röschmenn as Donna Anna and Donna Elvira, and baritone Alex Esposito as Leporello, in a production led by conductor Alain Altinoglu.
Listen to World of Opera on the Operavore on stream each week here at WQXR.org. The program streams Thursdays at 4pm, Saturdays at 5pm and Sundays at 1pm.
