Tune in at 9pm on Wednesday as we continue a long Young Artists Showcase tradition of devoting the first show of the year to grant winners from Salon de Virtuosi. Salon de Virtuosi is an organization dedicated to discovering and supporting talented young musicians from around the world. The organization was founded in 1989 by pianist Charlotte White, who remains committed to expanding the opportunities and financial support available to emerging artists.

The performances in this program took place at the awards concert at the Kosciuszko Foundation this past November. We will hear Chinese pianist Wei Luo perform the first movement of Beethoven’s Waldstein sonata, cellist Chang Pan will perform the finale from Rachmaninoff’s sonata in G minor, as well as music by Scriabin and Smetana.

Program:

Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 21 in C major (“Waldstein”), I. Allegro con brio
--Wei Luo, piano

Rachmaninoff: Cello Sonata in G minor, IV. Allegro molto
--Chang Pan, cello; Ronaldo Rolim, piano

Scriabin: Piano Sonata No. 2 in G# minor
--Rieko Tsuchido, piano
