Beginning Saturday, August 2 at 7 pm, join us for Season Two of Q2 Music at the Proms – a seven-part series of live recordings from the BBC Proms in London, hosted by BBC presenter Clemency Burton-Hill. Concert one features a world premiere by the late British composer John Tavener alongside music of Béla Bartók and Dmitri Shostakovich's.

Tavener's Gnosis, a work commissioned by the BBC Orchestra, draws on "spiritual knowledge" from Hindu, Christian and Islamic traditions and features alto flutist Michael Cox and mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly.

Béla Bartók's lively 1938 Violin Concerto No. 2 is performed here with soloist Isabelle Faust. Dmitri Shostakovich's sprawling 1953 Symphony No. 10 rounds out the program.

The BBC Symphony Orchestra is led for this performance by conductor Jiří Bělohlávek.
