Verdi himself once described the story of his brooding masterpiece Simon Boccanegra as "too sad and desolate," and then made a complete revision of the score before he was satisfied. Now, it's counted among his most powerful and compelling dramas.

On World of Opera, host Lisa Simeone presents Simone Boccanegra from one of opera's most glamorous destinations, La Fenice in Venice. Baritone Simone Piazzola stars in the title role, in a production led by conductor Myung-Whun Chun.
