Politics, religion, a dangerous love triangle, plus one of the greatest choral anthems every written in the soul-stirring “Va, pensiero" are all in Nabucco, which made Verdi a star on both the opera and political stage.
Baritone Željko Lučić stars in the title role of the tyrannical Babylonian king, whose ambition paves the way to his own destruction. As his antagonist, Zaccaria, a Hebrew prophet, is Dmitry Belosselskiy. In the middle are Nabucco's true daughter, Fenena, and his adopted daughter, Abigaille, both of whom love the same Hebrew warrior. Carlo Rizzi conducts the production.
