Alma Deutscher performing 'The Night Before Christmas' (YouTube)

When Alma Deutscher began sharing her musical compositions on YouTube three years ago she was the age that many young aspiring musicians begin practicing scales. Now at age 11, Deutscher is a virtuoso pianist and and concert violinist on the verge of premiering her original opera Cinderella in December. She has received accolades from the likes of Daniel Barenboim and Simon Rattle. Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter has described Deutscher as "absolutely extraordinary."

It's tempting to see a young person with such rich talent and think of Mozart. But as Deutscher told the Associated Press, "I think for me it's more interesting to be Alma" instead of Mozart. And that being special "is really normal because I don't know anything else."

So as we head into the holiday season, we are sharing this charming rendition of "The Night Before Christmas" composed and performed by Deutscher three years ago.

What a great way to usher in the advent season. Thank you Alma for sharing your talents with the world!
