This week on Exploring Music, Bill McGlaughlin looks at the literature in the classical canon for wind quintet, devoting one day to each instrument: flute (Monday), oboe (Tuesday), clarinet (Wednesday), bassoon (Thursday) and horn (Friday). We'll hear each one separately — in solos from Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf and Mozart concerti — as well as together, in famous wind quintets by Poulenc, Ligeti and others.

Flutist Jean Baxtresser, oboist John Mack, clarinetist Larry Combs, bassoonist David McGill and horn player David Krehbiel will also join throughout the week to provide insight into their instruments.
