While the Young Artists Showcase is rounding out its 35th year on the air at WQXR, some organizations have been at it even longer. The Young Concert Artists eclipses the Young Artists' legacy— it's been awarding budding talent since 1961. Founded by Susan Wadsworth, The Young Concert Artists holds international auditions to find burgeoning careers to bolster.
The 2013 winners gave a private gala concert last month and on this week's episode, the Young Artists Showcase present those intimate performances. The program also includes solo Bach from Chinese pianist Yunqing Zhou, who helped open the Young Artists season in October as winner of Juilliard’s Gina Bachauer Piano Competition. The final winner of the evening was 17-year-old American violinist Stephen Waarts, who gave a thrilling reading of Ravel’s Violin Sonata No. 2.
