Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 8 pm, Q2 Music streams "CONTACT! Yefim Bronfman and Friends" – the latest installment of the new-music series presented by the New York Philharmonic and the 92nd St. Y and recorded live at Greenwich Village's new downtown space SubCulture on Jan. 13.
The concert features the world premiere of American composer Marc Neikurg's Passions, Reflected for solo piano – a work composed specifically for pianist Yefim Bronfman. The performance also includes the U.S. premiere of Denmark composer Poul Ruders's String Quartet No. 4 as well as a previously-commissioned work for Bronfman by Marc-André Dalbavie (France) for string trio. All three composers have had previous premieres by the New York Philharmonic.
Though widely known for his mastery of classical repertoire, Bronfman has also demonstrated an advocacy for contemporary music, a commitment he brings to bear on his 2013-2014 residency with the New York Philharmonic. His CONTACT! performance follows a recent recording of Mangus Lindberg's Piano Concerto No. 2, another commission from the Philharmonic.
