Yekwon Sunwoo and Caramoor's Rising Stars
Wednesday, September 17, 2014
The Young Artists Showcase first introduced pianist Yekwon Sunwoo this past May as a recent winner of several competitions. In this episode, we'll hear more in-concert performances from Sunwoo, as well as a quartet from the Rising Stars program at the Caramoor music festival just north of New York City.
Sunwoo begins the program with paraphrased music by Richard and Johann Strauss. Up next is a four-hand piano interlude by the Varshavsky-Shapiro duo, who were introduced earlier this year as winners of the Astral Artists competition.
Then we go up to Katonah, N.Y., for the Rising Stars program. As she told us earlier this year, cellist Alisa Weilerstein got her start at Caramoor in this chamber music program. This outdoor recital at Caramoor features the famous Dvorak String Quintet in E-flat, with guest violist Atar Arad of the Cleveland Quartet.
