Exceedingly versatile and at times beguilingly gamine, flautist Claire Chase's newest album, Terrestre, has much to recommend it with works by Saariaho, Boulez and more. 

On Thursday, August 11, the International Contemporary Ensemble performed its final concert as part of their residency at this year's Mostly Mozart Festival. The performance was led by conductor-composer Matthias Pintscher against the backdrop of the New York City skyline at Lincoln Center's Kaplan Penthouse, and featured a New York premiere by Jonathan Harvey and two world premieres from ICElab composers Steve Lehman and Phyllis Chen. The evening also included John Zorn's Chistabal for five flutists and the otherworldly Rondo for glass armonica, K. 617 by Mozart.

Members of the International Contemporary Ensemble arrived in the WQXR Café to present Stravinsky's arrangement of Bach's Prelude and Fugue in C sharp minor. It's a piece that sounds so lush and romantic that it scarcely resembles Bach.

In the third and final ICELab of the 2010-2011 season, the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) presents Hollow Skies, featuring the music of percussionist and composer, Nathan Davis.

The second concert of the ICELab series took place on April 19 at (Le) Poisson Rouge with a full-length work titled Impossible Flow composed by saxophonist/composer, Steve Lehman.

This performance on March 30 at (Le) Poisson Rouge marks the inaugural ICELab concert featuring composer, Mario Diaz de León.

Last week, the International Contemporary Ensemble was slated to perform at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis. But then the cash-strapped theater canceled the remainder of its season. The program was instead released as a videocast, available here.

The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), although only about a decade old, is one of the most distinguished new music groups around today. Pioneering a model for how the 21st century chamber musician should function and find their way in today's artistic scene, ICE has set the standard for many modern, multi-faceted musicians with a taste for contemporary music. In this April 27 concert, ICE performs music of John Zorn, Dai Fukijura and Du Yun, led by conductor Matthias Pintscher in a performance at (Le) Poisson Rouge.

In this June 29 performance, the long-standing and famously accomplished International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) joins forces with the explosive and progressive JACK Quartet as a send-off to their performances at the the International Summer Course for New Music in Darmstadt, Germany. The two new music giants perform works by Earl Brown, Caleb Burhans, Jason Eckhardt and Yoshiaki Onishi.
