  • CBC Have a wonderful Memorial Day. We should ALL remember the sacrifices all the Service members made & make for us to enjoy our freedom. BTW Lucia is not my cup of tea.

  • Hagen is NOT operating under Alberich's orders. In Walkure Wotan calls him "Hasses Frucht" (the fruit of hate). He is evil to the core. No redeeming features. As for Scarpia. Yes, he is evil BUT he his head is on the chopping block. He has been called in from Sicily by the Queen to get the job done. BTW you laeft out attempted rape as one of his crimes. Die Amme in Frau is evil. Sachs is one of the most beloved characters in opera I don't care what Ms. Wagner says. There are no villains in Meistersinger. Klingsor = BAD BOY!! Die Hexe in Hansel isn't evil, maybe scarey. She does what a witch does-eat children-so what !!! LOL Azucena is no great mother. Gets her vendetta & lives! Pinkerton is just a cad, not evil. Turridu may not be a villain but he's no hero.

  • I heard Kraus at the Met. What grace & elegance! He took a High C at the end of the Kleinsack aria - I haven't anybody do that recently. As for the Diamond aria, well, George London spoiled that for me years ago. Nobody had the Dynamic or vocal range to do that aria justice. Bassos would transpose down bec. the G scared them & baritones sang in original key & murdered the low notes but not London. He had it ALL. But this is a fine performance.

  • CBC Beautiful weather, as you are. I heardthis one on opening nite in October. Yes, Offenbach does not get enough credit. It is very beautiful with very difficult arias for all but what a treat. Stay well dear CBC.

  • Mr. Lane. It seems to me that singers are taught to sound the same, almost like a cookie-cutter. There's no personality in the voices. Voices are not distinctive today. I sure you could easily pick out a Lorenz, Hopf, Aldenhoff, Suthaus, Thomas, Windgassen, Sattler, Kullman, Svanholm, Maison, etc. It's almost as if today's singers are being deprived of their individuality.

  • Sorry Mr. Lane but Terfel over used piano/parlando too much. It would have had more of an effect if he used it less. Your teacher, the great Frierich Schorr, never stopped to such gimmicks. His voice was even & almost perfect legato. Terfel aspirated before high notes - a bad habit.

  • The Met orchestra once again played magnificently. They don't get the credit they deserve.

  • I think Siegmund is dumb as a box of rocks. He doesn't even recognize his own sister but Sieglinde recognizes him. I guess dumbness runs in the male line of Wotan's family because all his female children are pretty sharp. Poor Siegfrid is a product of bad genes, as Hagen is a product of evil genes.
