My husband Anker West, an artist and ceramicist, has been having an annual holiday and exhibit for the last 15 years. He makes beautiful, one-of-a-kind ceramics, like vases, goblets, cups and bowls including some sculptures. The showroom is located in a vault (perhaps a bomb shelter once upon a time) in a converted toy factory that also houses artists, from painters to photographers to writers. Part of the studio opens up to a lovely courtyard protected by trees and bamboo. The building is located in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ, one block away from Penn Station, which provides easy access from the Path and NJ Transit. As an added incentive, the neighborhood is full of portuguese/spanish and brazilian restaurants and bakeries for a bite after shopping.
The exhibit and sale will be Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11 from 1 to 5pm. Also by appointment.

Try shopping in this neighborhood. There are some stores with items from Portugal or Brazil as well as some nice boutiques and jeweleries. Shopping here can represent some savings since it is within a 3% tax zone.

The December Store of Artist Multiples and Small Works at .NO, a Non-profit Art Gallery
Saturdays 12 –6 in December

We are very pleased to announce the December Store, an artists multiples and small works store at .NO a Non-profit Art Gallery at 251 East Houston Street in NYC. Open every Saturday in December leading up to Christmas. The December Store is the curatorial initiative of Vanessa Albury and Sörine Anderson. December Store comprised of over 50 NYC-based and international artists selling works. Inspired by the pop-up store of the Fluxus era and the notion that everyone should be able to afford to own art, Anderson and Albury have assembled artists within their own community to participate in this project. The artists range from writers to international curators, filmmakers to bookmakers, poets to perfumers, and bakers to painters. Many of the works are specially crafted for the December Store. You'll find snow globes, masks, paintings, prints, jewelry, objects, hand-painted cards, audio and video works and much more for $100 or less. Shopping at the December Store will also provide support for .NO, an artist-run, non-for-profit which opened earlier this year.

Each Saturday a NYC-based artist working in performance or video will be featured. Video screenings by Ronnie Bass, Amy Granat and John Torreano. Performances by Rachel Mason, Jason Martin and special guests.

Visit our facebook event for sneak peaks on artworks in the December Store or to contact us. http://www.facebook.com/events/318721534820587/

Come shop for some unique treasures, experience moving image works and warm up with some hot cider and sugar cookies with us!

My girlfriend and I own a jewelry store in Park Slope, Brooklyn, called St. Kilda. She-Nora Kogan--designs all the jewelry and everything is made in NYC. Prices start at $100 for a silver ring and go up up up ($18,000 for an 18k gold engagement ring). Nora's designs are beautiful, whimsical and sophisticated. Oh, and we love WNYC!!

I am a mom with two little girls and run a little Etsy shop out of my house to make ends meet. I hand make nature and vintage inspired jewelry (birds, leaves, bees, owls, etc.) at reasonable prices. I thoroughly enjoy making pieces for every type and style of person and love to collaborate on design ideas with my customers. I have a shop where you can browse and buy a pre-made piece or you can get in touch with me if you have an idea that you would like to turn into a custom piece.

I am so happy to be part of a community where the importance of supporting local artisans is becoming more relevant. There are so many people with amazing ideas out there who are tucked away and have so much to offer. It's wonderful that we are seeking those artisans out and patronizing them more and more.
