Thanks so much for the several airings of the rapturous excerpt from Francesca da Rimini. I wish the general opera public would pay more attention to this unjustly neglected work, by focusing on the many beauties of the score which far outweigh the occasional banalities. Zandonai's strength was obviously in his voluptuous orchestral writing, But I think he also masterfully evoked the passion and tragedy and sadness of the perfumed poetry of D"Annunzio, and the more muted passages in Danté. Paolo's arrival, the entire third act, and the final duet are breathtaking, with a nod to Wagner. Keep championing this opera! I'll take it any day over the deliciously awful Adriana Lecouvreur (my favorite terrible opera).
