Tannhauser: Pilgrims Chorus
Richard Wagner

This reminds me of Wagner's railing, lifelong attacks against use of chorus ("outdated"), particularly by Verdi. Poor Verdi.

Until it was convenient of Wagner, on occasion, as in this section of Tannhaeuser.

He also used it in Lohengrin (Bridal Chorus) and then, I think, the last time, in Götterdämmerung (Act 2, part 3).

One conflicted composer.
