Tavern Restaurant Auctions Off Goods

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

The chandeliers and Tiffany deigned stained glass from Tavern on the Green are up for sale today.

Financial problems reportedly moved the Central Park restaurant to serve up its last meal and close its doors on New Year's Eve.

Where oppulent meals were once served, art will now be auctioned off to help cover the restaurant's $8 million debt. Beyond the chandeliers and stained glass from the restaurant, copper weather vanes, silver candelabras, place settings, chairs and garden furniture will also be sold.

The sale is organized by Guernsey's auction house, which also auctioned off the goods of John F. Kennedy, Elvis Presley and Mickey Mantle.
