Moderate Dem Backs Senate Healthcare Bill

Friday, November 20, 2009

Nebraskan Senator Ben Nelson says he'll vote to bring the senate's healthcare debate to the floor.

Reuters reports Democrats had been unsure of Nelson's support to advance the legislation. He says he still doesn't know if he'll support the final version of the healthcare bill, but he wants the Senate to have a "full and open" debate on the matter.

Two other Senate Democrats remain on the fence. They are Louisiana's Mary Landrieu and Arkansas' Blanche Lincoln. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will need votes from all 58 Democratic members, and the 2 independents who caucus with them, to get the bill to the floor for debate.

The Senate will take the procedural debate vote on Saturday night.
