This Sunday at 2 p.m., tune into the Kronos Quartet's second performance from (Le) Poisson Rouge. Sharing the stage with Judith Berkson, this concert features a world premiere by Aleksandra Vrebalov and New York premieres by Michael Gordon and Dan Visconti.
Since their inception 30 years ago, the Kronos Quartet have paved the way for an innovating, adventurous and appealing way of presenting new music to mainstream audiences. It was only a matter of time before this dynamic group jumped on the train and performed at the club (Le) Poisson Rouge.
This performance opens with Clint Mansell's (arr. Kronos Quartet) Death Is the Road to Awe, Michael Gordon's Clouded Yellow and Dan Visconti's Love Bleeds Radiant. Judith Berkson joins the quartet in her arrangement of Schubert's The Raven from Winterreise, Aleksandra Vrebalov's Der Sonnenuhr and the vocal set closes with another Berkson arrangement of Schubert's Psalm 92. Returning to the stage on their own, the Kronos Quartet performs JG Thirlwell's Eremikophobia and a Ljova/Kronos arrangement of Oh Mother, the Handsome Man Tortures Me.
Never one to miss a multimedia opportunity, the Quartet closes their two-day debut at (L)PR with Sebastian Currier's Next Atlantis which features a video by Brooklyn-based photographer and videographer Pawel Wojtasik.
This recording documented the second of two Kronos concerts that took place at (Le) Poisson Rouge on October 8 and 9, 2010. In case you missed it, check back through our archives to listen to the October 8 performance, streamed on April 10, 2011.
