NYC and NJ Schools Closed
Tuesday, February 09, 2010
New York City and New Jersey public schools will be closed today, Wednesday, in anticipation of a big winter storm that promises to dump 12 inches of snow on the area.
All after-school activities and athletic leagues will also be canceled. The Department of Education says morning travel conditions might not be difficult, but the coming storm is expected to worsen as the day progresses, complicating dismissal.
The department says it wanted to make the decision today to give parents as much time as possible to make alternative plans for tomorrow.
The last time the city called a snow day was March 2, 2009.
