New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has picked up an endorsement from the Bronx Democratic County Committee in her bid for her party's nomination. A Gillibrand spokesperson says the incumbent now has 57 of the state's 62 counties.
Endorsements from Kings County, Queens County, and Staten Island are still outstanding. Manhattan Democrats are scheduled to meet tomorrow.
If Gillibrand wins the backing of the county organizations that represent three quarters of the state's Democrats, her potential opponents would have to gather at least 15,000 signatures to get on the September primary ballot to challenge her.
Labor activist Jonathan Tasini has pledged to take on Gillibrand. Former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford has said he is also considering a challenge.
