Sadie Wins Best in Show at Westminster

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

At the Westminster dog show, a Scottish terrier known as Sadie won "Best in Show" last night at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Associated Press reports that although Sadie was expected to win, it took a little bit longer for her to be awarded the prize because a protest by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) held up the proceedings. Two women walked into the ring and held up signs saying, "Mutts Rule," and "Breeders Kill Shelter Dogs' Chances." The women were booed out of the ring as security escorted them out.

Sadie was ranked No. 1 when she came into the Westminster Kennel Club dog show. 2001 was the last time a dog ranked No. 1 won Best in Show at Westminster. J.R., a bichon frise, held that honor.
