Villazón Returns to Vienna's Stage

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Opera Tenor Rolando Villazón returned to the stage in Austria last night, after recovering from surgery he had to remove a cyst on his vocal cords. The Associated Press reports that the 38-year-old Mexican singer performed at the Vienna Staatsoper. He sung Nemorino in Donizetti's comedy "L'elisir d'amore" ("The Elixir of Love").

In 2009, Villazón lost control of his voice singing another Donizetti opera, "Lucia di Lammermoor," at the Metropolitan Opera. He was then diagnosed with the cyst and underwent surgery.

Next, Villazón will sing Lenski in Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" in Berlin.
