Saturday Morning Cartoons: A Wagner Musical Mash-Up

Saturday, February 04, 2012

This Saturday’s cartoon features the Overture to Wagner’s Tannhauser. The music is included in the 1957 Warner Brothers cartoon, What’s Opera, Doc?

Although the cartoon is probably best known for Elmer Fudd singing “Kill the Wabbit” to the tune of “Ride of the Valkyries,” from Die Walkure, the “love scene” in this cartoon is set to music from Tannhauser.

Oh Brunhilda, yor're so lovely. Yes I know it, I can't help it.
Who could ever forget Bugs in blonde braids. I have often wondered what type of kids these cartoons were meant for. I still enjoy them and occasionally rent them out from Netflix.
