Concert pianist Jade Simmons performs live on WNYC's Soundcheck with John Schaefer.

Jade Simmons once stood on the runway as Miss Illinois and the first runner-up to Miss America, and shes been a spokeswoman for the U.S. Labor Department's Youth Opportunity Movement. But these days shes busy presenting unconventional programming, as on Revolutionary Rhythm her new CD featuring sonatas by Barber and Corigliano, as well as the Hip-Hop Etudes of Daniel Bernard Roumain.
