It was the decade when movie theaters started showing opera, and the LA Philharmonic hired a 28-year-old whose nickname was "The Dude" to run the show.

WNYC's Soundcheck--joined by Anne Midgette, chief classical music critic of the Washington Post--looks at the decade in classical music and opera. Midgette and host John Schaefer share their picks for the top classical albums of the decade.
