Daniel Harding and Mahler Chamber Orchestra Play Mozart, Schumann and Sibelius

Saturday, August 17, 2013

On Saturday, Aug. 17 at 5 pm, WQXR broadcasts the fifth in a series of performances from the BBC Proms festival in London. After 10 years, conductor Daniel Harding returns to the BBC Proms to direct the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, with which he has a long association, in a program exploring the subtly different properties of the keys of C major and C minor.

Paul Lewis joins the orchestra as the soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto, K503. Two great symphonies acutely expressive of light and shade, Schumann’s Second and Sibelius’s Seventh, complete the program.

Program details:

Mozart: Masonic Funeral Music, K477

Schumann: Symphony No. 2 in C major

Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 25 in C major, K503

Sibelius: Symphony No. 7 in C major

Mozart: Symphony No. 41 in C major, "Jupiter," Finale (encore)

Splendid program! Especially enjoyed the Mozart Masonic Funeral Music, and the Sibelius. Bravo!
