This fall, WQXR brings the Royal Opera House from London's Covent Garden to New York airwaves along with a series of screenings in partnership with Symphony Space.

Every Saturday at 1 pm, from Sept. 14-Nov. 2, WQXR will broadcast operas from the Royal Opera House's 2012-13 season. Highlights include Plácido Domingo in the title role of Verdi’s Nabucco; Bryn Terfel as Wotan in Wagner’s Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, and Siegfried; and Roberto Alagna and Aleksandra Kurzak as Nemorino and Adina in The Elixir of Love.

In addition, beginning Sunday, Sept. 22, Symphony Space and WQXR will screen a series of select operas from the Royal Opera House in high definition video. The "Royal Opera House Cinema," will include Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Rossini’s La Donna del Lago from the 2012-13 season, as well as the current season’s Les Vêpres Siciliennes by Verdi and Wagner’s Parsifal.

Screenings take place at 3 pm on Sundays at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre with introductions by Operavore host Naomi Lewin, among others.

Nov. 24 — Verdi: Les Vêpres Siciliennes

Jan. 26 — Wagner: Parsifal (rescheduled from Dec. 22)

To be successful you need Internet Stream, so we can see it in our own theaters. I can stream lots of Opera and concerts to my studio in HD and excellent audio now. That's the future of opera and classical music programming.

Streaming to the Peter Jay Sharp theater does not impress me one bit. That is yesterday's technology. If we don't catch up to Europe in technology, it will be the end of US symphony orchestras and opera houses. Met Player is a good start, but the audio is at too low a bit rate.
