Pilot Error Possibly at Blame for Crash

Monday, April 12, 2010

Russian investigators say readings from flight recorders show there were no technical problems with Polish President Lech Kaczynski's Soviet-made plane that crashed during its airport approach on Saturday, killing him and 95 others.

The Associated Press reports that the plane's pilot may have been to blame for the crash. On Polish television, investigators told Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin that the pilot was warned of bad weather over the airport before the plane crashed.

Yesterday, President Kaczynski's body was returned to Warsaw's presidential palace where crowds of people festooned his coffin with flowers. Russia and Ukraine declared national days of mourning for the deceased president today.
