House Democrats will unveil their health care reform plan Thursday. The plan will be on the House floor for debate as early as next week.
Reuters reports the proposed bill includes a government-run insurance plan, requires individuals to buy health coverage, and imposes a surtax on the wealthy to help pay for the plan.
The bill would require individuals to buy insurance, and would offer subsidies to help the uninsured pay for it.
Representative Marion Berry (D-AK) said he was undecided if he would support the measure because he wanted drugmakers and health insurers to pay their fair share for health care reform.
"If they aren't squealing to the high heavens, we haven't hit them hard enough," Berry told reporters.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants the new Democratic bill to be voted on before Veterans Day, November 11.
