BBC Proms: World Orchestra for Peace Plays Mahler & Strauss

Every week on WQXR, BBC presenter Clemency Burton-Hill will host concerts from the 2014 BBC Proms in London, with the full range of repertory favorites, star performers and world premieres. This week, we hear the World Orchestra for Peace with its conductor Valery Gergiev, performing Mahler's Sixth Symphony and Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten.

The program begins with Roxanna Panufnik’s Three Paths to Peace, which was commissioned by tonight’s orchestra and meshes Christian, Jewish and Islamic musical traditions to tell the story of Abraham and Isaac.
