This week, the Brothers Balliett talk to Jason Eckardt! From his roots as a metal guitarist, through his Webern-inspired turn to composition, all the way to his recent appointment at Peabody, Jason Eckardt's is a career worth exploring.

His compositions are informed by the processes found in nature, the physicality of performance, and his own political views. But however it is produced, this music is engaging and satisfying to hear. This week Jason Eckardt sits down to chat with the Brothers Balliett.

We'll hear a good cross-section of Mr. Eckardt's music, including some very virtuosic guitar playing, a string quartet, a duo for cello and alto flute, as well as music from some very prominent influences; namely Webern and Dallapiccola. Some of the best performers in New York City (think Jay Campbell and Tony Arnold) are featured in these recordings, so this broadcast is not too be missed. And if you like this music you'll definitely want to check out "Subject" – his brand new CD on Tzadik Records. The release will be celebrated with a live show at Roulette on May 19.

Hosted by:

Brad Balliett and Doug Balliett
