A Centennial Ceremony of Carols: A Benjamin Britten Holiday Celebration

Airs at 11 pm on Dec. 15 and at 5 pm on Dec. 25 on WQXR.

Sunday, December 15, 2013

Benjamin Britten’s first published work was a setting of A Hymn to the Virgin that he wrote at age 17, beginning his lifelong passion for creating direct and powerfully communicative works for the human voice.

This centennial celebration of Britten features the New England Conservatory Chamber Chorus, led by Erica Washburn, the NEC Brass Ensemble and the Back Bay Ringers. In addition to the Hymn to the Virgin, the program will highlight Britten’s Ceremony of Carols and other holiday works.
