To celebrate the last few days of autumn as New York heads into the mild beginning of winter, the Brothers Balliett share two stunning chamber works to set a contemplative tone for the season.

Alvin Lucier's Letters is exactly that – a musical depiction of a letter to a friend. Vertical strokes are chords; horizontal strokes are sustained tones, so that, in theory, one can 'read' this music as one hears it. A fascinating idea realized with beautiful harmonies.

Matthew Barnson's Third String Quartet is a move active affair, but replete with the beauty we've come to expect from this master of compositions for strings.

Join us for an afternoon of exquisite small ensemble pieces – the perfect mid-December treat.

Brad Balliett and Doug Balliett
