Today the Brothers Balliett take a look at two composers with....well...let's say "unusual" approaches to piano composition. Helmut Lachenmann amplifies the inside of the piano and turns the whole instrument into a giant percussion setup in Guero, and creates a highly idiomatic harmonic language in Wiegenmusik.

Michael Torke takes a slightly different approach in his travelogue epic, Miami Grands. If one piano is good, thinks Mr. Torke, wouldn't TEN be better?

Hear the results today at 3 pm.
