Russia has given the classical world many gifts, but perhaps the greatest is an unrivaled repertoire for the piano. The music is romantic, demanding and suffused with the passion of the Slavic soul.

Join us for a special event celebrating the mighty Russian piano tradition, featuring performances by several accomplished young pianists: Bang-Shyan Chen, Rexa Han, Giuseppe Mentuccia, Dmitri Shelest, and Jun Sun.

The Great Russian Piano Tradition is a new radio series dedicated to Russian composers and performers, and in this companion event, scholar David Dubal traces the history of piano music in Russia with a special focus on the four pillars of the Russian piano literature: Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. A longtime favorite of WQXR's audiences, Dubal is an acknowledged authority on the piano, and his insights and observations are celebrated around the world.
