Heinz Holliger (Priska Ketterer)

There are many fantastic musicians for whom playing an instrument is not enough – these musicians must create, and some of them turn out to be amazing composers.

Heinz Holliger became famous as an oboe player before he unleashed his crazy musical language on the world. His Second String Quartet is classic Holliger, performed masterfully by the Zehetmair Quartet. Clarinetist Jorg Widman writes extremely colorful music that demonstrates his intimate knowledge of orchestration – his Labyrinth is especially gripping. Finally, we'll hear the final scene of Trillium E, Anthony Braxton's massive opera.
