BBC Proms 2014 Broadcasts

Hear full BBC Proms concerts on WQXR and Q2 Music: July 25-Sept. 19, 2014.

For the second year, WQXR will broadcast full concerts from the BBC Proms, the longstanding summer festival that takes place mostly at the Royal Albert Hall in London. From July 25 to Sept. 19, hear full concerts on Friday evenings at 9 pm hosted by the BBC Radio 3's Clemency Burton-Hill. 

In addition, Q2 Music will provide access to a selection of the contemporary music offered by the Proms. Both WQXR and Q2 will also offer on-demand streaming of select Proms concerts for a week after the initial airing of the concert. The broadcasts are made possible through the station’s membership in the European Broadcasting Union.

WQXR broadcast schedule:

July 25: The China Philharmonic Orchestra plays Elgar, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky and Liszt.

Aug. 1: The World Orchestra for Peace plays Richard Strauss and Mahler.

Aug. 8: The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the National Youth Choir of Scotland play Mozart’s Requiem.

Aug. 15: The BBC Philharmonic plays Chopin, Franck, Saint-Saëns and Casella.

Aug. 22: The BBC Philharmonic plays Sibelius, Bridge and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.

Aug. 29: The Academy of St Martin in the Fields plays Beethoven, Bruch and Walton.

Sept. 5: The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra plays a World War I memorial concert.

Sept. 12: The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra plays Richard Strauss, Elgar and Berlioz.

Sept. 19: The BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Chorus and BBC Singers play the Last Night of the Proms. (Note: Special start time of 7 pm)

Aug. 2: The BBC Symphony Orchestra plays Shostakovich, Bartók & Tavener.

Aug. 9: The Pet Shop Boys join the BBC Singers and BBC Concert Orchestra for A Man from the Future.

Aug. 16: The Tallis Scholars sing Tavener.

Aug. 23: The BBC Singers and Endymion play Steve Reich.

Aug. 30: The Aurora Orchestra plays Mozart, Dobrinka Tabakova and Benedict Mason.

Sept. 6: The Iceland Symphony Orchestra plays Haukur Tómasson, Schumann, Leifs and Beethoven.

Sept. 13: Sir Peter Maxwell Davies Birthday Concert.
