WQXR returns to the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland. Founded in 1938, this six-week event on the edge of Lake Lucerne attracts many top-name classical soloists and orchestras from around the world. In 2014 the festival welcomed the fast-rising Latvian Andris Nelsons as the new conductor of the resident Lucerne Festival Orchestra. We'll broadcast Nelsons's first concert along with programs by several leading international groups. Concerts were recorded in the Lucerne Hall of the KKL (Kultur und Kongresszentrum Luzern) on the banks of Lake Lucerne.
